After a 24 day wait, Manchester United are finally back in Premier League action as they take on old rivals Leeds United, who remain in a fight for their top flight survival. After a 1-1 draw in January’s reverse fixture, Leeds United are looking to avoid defeat in both Premier League H2Hs in a season against Manchester United for the first time since 1994/95, but it’s been over 45 years since their last league victory at Old Trafford (D7, L11). Manchester United are winless in their last three Monday-held home league matches (D1, L2).

Manchester United have had over three weeks to process the disappointment of twice squandering the lead in a 2-2 draw away at Bournemouth, even if it proved a point gained in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification. The Red Devils start the round with a seven point buffer down to sixth but can ill afford any slip-ups as they play the two sides directly below them across the next four gameweeks. They should have every reason to be confident here though as Manchester United were last beaten at Old Trafford in the Premier League in November (W6, D3), while only three managers boast a longer winning start at home in the competition than Michael Carrick (W6).

Leeds United resume their relegation scrap buoyed by landing a psychological blow on a direct rival after they beat West Ham on penalties to book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals. Avoiding an immediate return to the Championship remains the Whites’ priority and they’ve little breathing space given that they start the round just four points clear of the bottom three. Winning none of their last six Premier League outings, while failing to score in the last four, has held them back (D4, L2), but Daniel Farke’s men remain hard to beat, particularly on the road where seven of their last eight league outings including each of the last four have ended in a draw (L1).

Manchester United have avoided defeat in all 19 league games they scored first in this season (W12, D7). Leeds United have conceded 32 of their 48 Premier League goals this term after half-time. Only two sides start the round having failed to score in more league fixtures than Leeds United (11) this season.

In just six H2Hs, Bruno Fernandes boasts more Premier League goal involvements against Leeds United than any other Manchester United player (G6, A2), six of which have come in just three such meetings at Old Trafford (G5, A1). Ao Tanaka was on target in Leeds’ win over West Ham last week to retain his unbeaten record when scoring as a professional (W23, D4).

Harry Maguire misses out through suspension for Manchester United. Leeds United are without Joe Rodon, Anton Stach and Daniel James with several others also doubtful.
