The increasingly perilous reign of Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank could be on the line when he comes up against Michael Carrick, whose Manchester United are flying. Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying their longest-ever unbeaten run against Manchester United in all competitions (W5, D3), including last season’s UEFA Europa League final triumph and a 3-0 win at Old Trafford. Manchester United are unbeaten in league action this season against sides starting this round in the bottom half (W5, D7).

Spirits are high at Manchester United after they staved off a spirited Fulham comeback to win 3-2 in dramatic fashion on Sunday, maintaining their perfect start to Carrick’s tenure (W3). The Red Devils sit inside the Premier League’s top four after a seven-match unbeaten run in the competition (W4, D3), which is their best since February 2022 under Ralf Rangnick. That can be matched here in what will serve as the club’s closest home game to the 68-year anniversary of the Munich Air disaster, and there could be no better way to mark the occasion than extending their six-game league run without defeat at Old Trafford (W3, D3).

Tottenham Hotspur staged an impressive comeback of their own last week when rescuing a 2-2 draw against Manchester City, but a dire first-half performance means that Frank remains under huge pressure to retain his position. Spurs’ six-match winless league run (D4, L2) and bottom-half standing goes some way to explain that, but some mitigation may come the Dane’s way given an ongoing injury crisis that captain Cristian Romero labelled as “disgraceful” this week. Hitting the road could be to Tottenham’s benefit as it is where five of their seven league wins this season have come (D4, L3), albeit with just one victory across their last seven such trips (D3, L3).

Pre-round, only Burnley (23) and Wolves (21) had conceded more first-half Premier League goals than Tottenham Hotspur (18) this term. Tottenham Hotspur failed to win all ten league games in which they trailed at half-time this season (D3, L7).

Bruno Fernandes will look to make amends for his red card in last season’s home game against Tottenham Hotspur having already registered his joint-most assists in a Premier League season (12), nine of which have come in his last nine appearances. Dominic Solanke was Spurs’ saviour last week and is primed to step up again after netting five times in his last five competitive games against Manchester United.

Manchester United look to have no fresh concerns, while Tottenham Hotspur are hoping Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence are fit to return here.
