Chelsea head into this FA Cup semi-final embroiled in yet more chaos, so Leeds must sense an opportunity to upset the odds and reach a first final in over 50 years. Chelsea have never been beaten by Leeds in the FA Cup (W6, D3), yet failed to win either of this season’s Premier League H2Hs (D1, L1). Fourteen of Chelsea’s 20 FA Cup goals this season came after half-time.

After just 106 days at the helm, Chelsea sacked Liam Rosenior as manager on Wednesday with their season on the brink of collapse. The decision came in the wake of a 3-0 defeat at Brighton that saw the Blues slump to a fifth successive league loss without scoring for the first time since 1912, and leaves them outside of the European qualification positions. Calum McFarlane steps in as interim boss for the second time this season, overseeing a big Wembley day out where Chelsea will face top-flight opponents for the first time in the FA Cup this season, having dispatched four lower-league sides by a 20-3 aggregate score under Rosenior’s guidance. There’s an element of expectancy on McFarlane here, as Chelsea have progressed from 12 of their last 15 semi-finals in this competition, yet have lifted the trophy just once since 2012.

Leeds may be underdogs but arrive at the national stadium with considerably more momentum behind them, as Wednesday’s last-gasp 2-2 draw at Bournemouth stretched their unbeaten run to seven competitive matches (W4, D3). Daniel Farke’s men have given themselves every chance of Premier League survival having already hit the magical 40-point mark, so can attack their first FA Cup semi-final since 1986/87 with all they’ve got, as they look to reach a first final since 1973. The Whites have needed penalties in two of their four ties to reach this stage, and have lost their only previous two games at Wembley since its rebuild in the early 2000s.

Chelsea’s last four FA Cup semi-final defeats have come by single-goal margins. Just three of Leeds’ last nine matches in all competitions saw both teams score. Leeds have conceded 2+ goals in seven of their last eight FA Cup defeats.

As well as scoring against Leeds earlier in the season, Pedro Neto has netted four times for Chelsea in the FA Cup this season, with each strike arriving on or beyond the 40th minute. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has won all four of his scoring appearances in this competition, and netted from the spot in regulation time as well as the penalty shootout in the quarter-final against West Ham.

Chelsea were without Cole Palmer and João Pedro in midweek, while Estêvão is set to miss the rest of the season. Daniel James returned to the bench for Leeds on Wednesday, but Anton Stach remains sidelined.
