Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior finds himself under increasing pressure ahead of this clash with Brighton as the Blues’ top-five push continues to flounder. Brighton have won the last two league H2Hs, as many as they had in their first 19 such meetings with Chelsea (D4, L13). In all competitions, the Seagulls have won three of the last four H2Hs they hosted (L1). Brighton have scored 60% of their first-half home league goals this term in the opening 15 minutes.

A spirited display saw Brighton twice fight back from behind to claim a 2-2 draw away to Tottenham on Saturday. The Seagulls are firmly in the midst of a logjam of sides vying to finish in the top seven and appear to have hit form at the perfect time having picked up 16 of the last 21 available points (W5, D1, L1). Only league-leaders Arsenal have beaten them in that time, with that defeat coming at home, where they’ve struggled for form of late on the back of just three wins in their last ten games at the Amex Stadium (D4, L3). A strange quirk could help them improve upon that though, as boss Fabian Hürzeler is unbeaten in his nine Premier League matches against English managers (W7, D2).

A damaging 1-0 home defeat to top-five rivals Manchester United at the weekend saw Chelsea booed off, as both Rosenior and the ownership group are starting to come under huge scrutiny amid record losses for the last financial year. With a yawning gap to fifth spot, the Blues are fast running out of time to get back amongst Europe’s elite next season (and the money that comes with it), and instead risk falling out of the European places completely after a run of four successive defeats without scoring. That’s part of a wider run of one win in eight league matches (D2, L5) for Chelsea, who will perhaps be happy to hit the road having won three of their last five away league games (L2).

Ten of Brighton’s last 14 league games produced under 2.5 goals. Chelsea have lost five of their last six Tuesday-held Premier League away games (D1). Chelsea haven’t kept an away league clean sheet in eight matches.

After his late equaliser against Tottenham, Brighton’s Georginio Rutter is developing a knack for growing into games having netted six of his last seven Premier League goals after half-time. Chelsea could look to Cole Palmer to break their goal drought given he accounts for 43% of the attempts the Blues have managed in their last three league games against Brighton, netting five goals from 16 shots therein.

Brighton saw Diego Gómez and Kaoru Mitoma limp off at the weekend, a fate that also befell Chelsea duo Enzo Fernández and Estêvão.
