No fewer than 13 teams remain winless in the Premier League after matchday one, and two of them meet here in this London derby as West Ham United vs Chelsea. Chelsea have won the last three H2Hs, but their record away to West Ham United has been indifferent across the last 11 such meetings in East London (W3, D2, L6). Seeing Graham Potter in the opposing dugout may give them hope of improving that record, as Potter has never beaten Chelsea in seven managerial H2Hs (D4, L3).

The opening weekend couldn’t have gone much worse for West Ham United, who were humiliated 3-0 away from home by newly-promoted Sunderland. The season may only be a game old, but after a lacklustre transfer window and a poor season last term, the pressure is already on boss Graham Potter. He’s been given the vote of confidence by the West Ham board but that could soon change if results don’t follow, and having won just one of their last eight Premier League home games (D3, L4), returning to the London Stadium won’t necessarily help his cause as he prepares to face his former side.

Chelsea were on the right end of a contentious VAR decision in their opening day clash with Crystal Palace, as the unusual decision to chalk off Eberechi Eze’s free-kick ensured the game ended goalless. The Blues strangely open their campaign with four successive London derbies, and having won a league-high 130 such games, that’s perhaps a blessing in disguise. What perhaps won’t be welcomed is an away game, as Enzo Maresca’s men, who claimed the Club World Cup in the summer, won just two of their last 11 away league games last season (D3, L6).

West Ham United have conceded first in four of their last five Premier League home games. The Hammers have won four of their last five Friday-held Premier League matches. Only one of Chelsea’s last eight Friday-held Premier League games saw both teams score. Chelsea have scored 11 of their last 13 Premier League goals after half-time.

New West Ham United recruit Callum Wilson will be hoping to get the nod from the start here and he’s netted five of his last six club goals before half-time. Chelsea’s João Pedro has faced no opponent in his career without ever scoring more than he has against West Ham (six times) – seven of his last eight club goals arrived before the hour mark.

West Ham United will be missing long-term absentee Crysencio Summerville, while Chelsea have a long list of missing players headed up by Romeo Lavia.
