Strasbourg will put their impressive unbeaten streak on the line against the pre-round Ligue 1 leaders and serial champions PSG. Strasbourg won last season’s corresponding fixture 2-1, and held PSG to a 3-3 draw in October in Paris. Le Racing have been beaten in just three of the last eight H2Hs they hosted (W2, D3). PSG have scored the opening goal a league-high 17 times this Ligue 1 campaign.
Strasbourg’s unbeaten streak reached eight games (W6, D2) after impressively thrashing Lille 4-1 last week. That run has seen Le Racing top the UEFA Conference League standings, advance in the Coupe de France, and re-enter the race for the European qualification positions in Ligue 1. The managerial transition from Liam Rosenior to Gary O’Neil has therefore been handled smoothly, with the new boss winning his first two league games in charge, putting him in a position to become just the second Strasbourg manager ever to win his first three Ligue 1 games. Doing so would also see Strasbourg win four home matches in a row in all competitions for the first time since November 2019.
PSG have been much less convincing outside of Ligue 1, having been dumped out of the Coupe de France while failing to win any of their last three UEFA Champions League matches (D2, L1), meaning they’ll have to negotiate the knockout play-off round. Luis Enrique’s men have returned to their best in Ligue 1 however, with five successive wins in this competition representing their best run of the season. The Parisians are being pushed by surprise contenders Lens, and have responded with back-to-back away league wins, as many victories as in their six such matches beforehand (D2, L2), albeit both came by one-goal margins against the division’s bottom two.
Five of Strasbourg’s last six matches produced over 2.5 total goals. Five of Strasbourg’s last six home matches saw both teams score. Four of PSG’s last six away matches stood goalless at the break.
Strasbourg’s Joaquín Panichelli netted a brace in the reverse fixture, and he’ll be hunting an early goal here since his last five strikes since served as the match opener. Bradley Barcola got the opener when these two last met, but his three goals since have all come after the 75th minute and been the game’s last goal.
Strasbourg seem to have no new injury concerns, while PSG could be without Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who limped off injured in midweek.
