Bottom-half Parma remain a little too close for comfort to the bottom three and will be looking for points against an in-form Juventus who are engaged in a top-four hunt. Juventus have won six of the last nine H2Hs (D2, L1), although that defeat did come in last season’s corresponding fixture. The first goal here could be key as six of the last seven meetings on this ground saw only one team score. Juventus are one of only two Serie A sides to see all of their away games this term produce under 3.5 goals.
After back-to-back goalless draws against Napoli and Genoa, Parma failed to score in a third consecutive Serie A match when they were hammered 4-0 by Atalanta. The Crusaders now face the prospect of failing to score in four consecutive top-flight matches for the first time since 2013, a feat which should they slump to here, could see their six-point cushion over the relegation places cut further. Four failures to score from their last five home league matches (W1, D1, L3) hardly makes pleasant reading on either front, while a torrid record against sides starting this round above them in the table (D8, L8) explains why they’re unfancied here.
On the back of three consecutive clean sheets across UEFA Champions League and Serie A duties (W2, D1), Juventus should be full of belief as they look to boost their top-four challenge. Luciano Spalletti’s men beat title-holders Napoli 3-0 in their last Serie A outing and followed it up with a midweek draw against Monaco, which proved to be enough to secure them a seeded spot in the UEFA Champions League knockout play-off round. Turning their attentions swiftly back to their Serie A duties, only Inter have picked up more than their 22 points in the last ten rounds (W7, D1, L2), but given that all four of their league defeats this term came on the road, they won’t be taking anything for granted here.
Parma have failed to score in a joint-league high 12 matches ahead of this round. Twelve of Parma’s 22 league matches stood level at half-time (HT: W3, L7). Only Roma have conceded fewer than Juventus’ eight second-half goals this term.
Parma’s Adrian Benedyczak has opened the scoring with five of his last six goals for the club, including both this season. Jonathan David has scored three goals across his last four Serie A appearances, with Juventus winning five of his six scoring outings for the club without conceding.
Neither side look to have any new injury concerns after the last round.
