Real Madrid aim to make it three La Liga victories out of three as they take on winless Mallorca on matchday three. Real Madrid have lost just one of the last ten H2Hs (W8, D1), and have emerged victorious in nine successive home matches against Mallorca. Only one of Real Madrid’s last six fixtures saw both teams score (W5, L1).
One of the biggest positives of Real Madrid’s start to the La Liga season is that after spending heavily in the summer to bolster their backline, Los Blancos are yet to concede, following up a 1-0 win against Osasuna with a more fluent 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo last weekend. Manager Xabi Alonso’s squad rotation, including benching Vinícius Júnior, paid off handsomely, particularly when the Brazilian produced a goal and an assist after being introduced to put the seal on their fifth straight league win, a run that coincidentally started with May’s 2-1 success over Mallorca here.
This trip to the Santiago Bernabéu is Mallorca’s first away game of the campaign having opened with two home league fixtures, neither of which they won (D1, L1), making for a disappointing start for Jagoba Arrasate’s side. They drew 1-1 with Celta Vigo last week to earn their first point of the campaign, and while a significant improvement after going into half-time 1-0 down should give fans of the Pirates heart, they’ll be less enthused by recent results on the road as they’ve only scored once across their last four La Liga away fixtures (D1, L3).
Real Madrid have won four of their last five home league games by a one-goal margin. Four of Mallorca’s last five league games witnessed scoring after the 85th minute. Mallorca have had either two or three players booked in each of their last seven La Liga fixtures.
Vinícius Júnior scored, assisted and was booked for Real Madrid against Oviedo and he’s often in the thick of the action against Mallorca with five direct goal contributions (G3, A2) and two yellow cards across nine H2Hs in the league. Omar Mascarell might also be keeping the referee busy after being booked between the 45th and 60th minute in two of his last three matches.
Neither side have any new injury concerns, but Real Madrid remain without the likes of Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, while Mallorca can welcome back Vedat Muriqi and Manu Morlanes from suspension.
