Saturday’s primetime Bundesliga spot sees a clash between Bavarian neighbours Augsburg and reigning champions Bayern Munich, with both sides looking to extend their perfect start into matchday two. Bayern Munchen have won all of the last six H2Hs, and boast a 71% win-rate in away Bundesliga meetings, their highest against any side which they’ve faced at least ten times in the top-flight (W10, D1, L3). Augsburg lost the last two home league games in which they scored first, one of which was against Bayern Munchen.

Overcoming the odds to win 3-1 against Freiburg on the opening day, Augsburg began a Bundesliga season with victory for just the third time in 15 attempts. It was a much-needed positive after they ended the previous campaign with four straight defeats and a tenth successive bottom-half finish, while it also allows Munich-born Sandro Wagner the chance to become just the third Augsburg boss to win his opening two Bundesliga games.

Bayern Munchen enjoyed a flying start to their title defence, thrashing Leipzig 6-0 for their biggest win since September 2024 and the outright largest margin of victory in the Bundesliga under Vincent Kompany. Such a strong start also means that Bayern Munchen have not been knocked off of their perch at the Bundesliga’s peak since matchday three in 2024/25. Playing away shouldn’t faze them either, as they’ve lost just one of their last 17 road games in the league (W11, D5).

Since the start of last season, Augsburg have avoided defeat in 59% of their league games as pre-match outsiders (W7, D6, L9). Bayern Munchen scored 3+ goals in five of their last six away league games (W4, D2). Bayern Munich lost just one of their last 16 away league games as pre-match favourites (W11, D5, L1).

Augsburg defender Keven Schlotterbeck often gets involved when facing Bayern Munchen, directly contributing to two goals (G1, A1) and being sent off across his last three personal H2Hs. Trying to get the better of him will be Bayern’s Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick for the eighth time in just his 64th Bundesliga appearance last weekend – seven of Kane’s 65 Bundesliga goals came across four meetings with Augsburg.

Samuel Essende is suspended for Augsburg, while Bayern Munchen remain without the likes of Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies.
