Neither AC Milan nor Udinese made a victorious return to Serie A action following the international break, something they will look to correct when they meet at the San Siro on Saturday. Milan have won the last four H2Hs, also keeping a clean sheet in each of the last three, and they’ve only lost one of the last eight home H2Hs (W4, D3). Six of Milan’s last seven league fixtures produced under 2.5 goals.

Milan’s 1-0 defeat to Napoli on Monday dropped them to third in Serie A, nine points behind city rivals Inter, leaving Champions League qualification as their primary focus for the remainder of the season. Having lost just one of their first 25 league fixtures, they’ve since lost three of their last six in the Italian top flight (W3), a poorly-timed loss of form with just seven league games remaining. At least the Rossoneri have only lost one of their last 14 home league matches (W9, D4) and winning their last two at the San Siro bodes well as they look to strengthen their top-four chances, even if both triumphs did come by a single-goal margin.

Udinese played out a goalless draw on Monday with a Como side who join Milan in the top-four hunt, and a sequence of just one defeat from their last five league matches (W2, D2) has propelled them towards the top half, giving them renewed hope of improving on last season’s 12th-place finish. Winning three of their last six away league games (D1, L2) might also inspire the Bianconeri to produce another special performance at the San Siro, where they impressively beat Inter 2-1 earlier this season.

Only two of Milan’s 22 home league goals this term arrived before the half-hour mark. Only one of Udinese’s last six Serie A matches saw both teams score. Each of Udinese’s last four away league games featured scoring after the 70th minute.

Milan defender Strahinja Pavlović criticised his team-mates following the Napoli defeat, doing so after scoring twice in his last four appearances for club and country – four of his last five club goals arrived between the 35th minute and half-time, a sequence which started against Udinese last term. Keinan Davis has scored in three of his last four appearances and may be a late threat given six of his last seven goals came after the 50th minute.

Matteo Gabbia appears to be Milan’s only injury absentee, while Udinese trio Adam Buksa, Alessandro Zanoli and Jordan Zemura all missed Monday’s game against Como.
