AC Milan’s 16-game unbeaten run in Serie A (W11, D5) means that they sit just one point off the title pace pre-round, during which the Rossoneri host relegation-threatened Genoa. Milan haven’t lost any of their last nine H2Hs (W6, D3), but three of the last four meetings they hosted were drawn inside 90 minutes. Allegri’s seven career H2Hs against Genoa whilst in charge of Milan all featured under 2.5 goals.

Milan have reacted well after their disappointing Supercoppa Italiana semi-final exit at the hands of Napoli last month (2-0), beating Verona 3-0 and Cagliari 1-0 since. Those victories form part of a wider unbeaten run in Serie A which spans back to a matchday one defeat against Cremonese as Massimiliano Allegri looks to repeat the feat of 2010/11 when he guided AC Milan to the Scudetto in his first season in charge. Facing Genoa is perhaps where Allegri runs into an obstacle though as he’s only won one of his last six personal H2Hs (D3, L2), even if his seven such games whilst in charge of Milan saw him go unbeaten (W5, D2).

A 1-1 draw against Pisa on Saturday did little to boost Genoa’s survival hopes, leaving them dangling just three points above the drop zone pre-round. The main positive from that game was that it ended a run of three successive defeats, but the honeymoon period is certainly over for boss Daniele de Rossi, who took eight points from his first four league games in charge. It’s hard to see past another defeat for Genoa here given how badly they’ve struggled against Serie A’s big hitters this season, losing seven of their eight league games (D1) this term against sides who joined Milan in the top nine pre-round.

Milan’s last six goals across all competitions have all been scored between the 30th and 55th minutes. Six of the last seven goals Genoa conceded came before half-time. Eight of Genoa’s last ten games saw both teams score.

Rafael Leão got the winner for Milan against Cagliari on his return from injury and has now avoided defeat in his last eight scoring appearances (W6, D2) – a run which includes getting the equaliser in a 2-1 victory over Genoa last May. Milan loanee Lorenzo Colombo netted for Genoa against Pisa, and his last seven scoring appearances at club level saw both teams score.

Neither side seem to have any fresh absentees.
