Serie A leaders AC Milan will hope to address their winning duck against newly promoted sides this season as the impressive Sassuolo come to town. Milan have won just one of their last five home league H2Hs (D1, L3). That win came in the last Serie A meeting at San Siro, so they could earn back-to-back league victories there against Sassuolo for only the second time ever. Milan have conceded only one first-half home goal this term.

Milan fought back from 2-0 down to beat Torino 3-2 on Monday to hold on to top spot in Serie A. With the Scudetto race heating up, the Rossoneri will hope to maintain their position at the summit by extending their 13-game unbeaten league run (W9, D4). Massimiliano Allegri’s side have lost to Cremonese and drawn to Pisa already this term though, opening up the possibility of failing to win their first three Serie A matches in a campaign against newly-promoted teams for the first time since 2014/15. Playing at San Siro could therefore prove key in boosting Milan’s chances of a victory, as the result against Pisa remains the only blemish in their last seven home games.

Sassuolo’s return to Serie A has continued to go swimmingly after a 3-1 win over Fiorentina last weekend, as they start this round only four points adrift of the European places. The Neroverdi may have won successive top-flight outings just once this term, but that previous sequence encouragingly also began with a 3-1 victory. Fabio Grosso’s men have struggled against the top teams this season though, losing all four league games against current top-six clubs, including a 2-0 loss to Como on their most recent away trip. They will be hopeful about ending that run here, as Sassuolo won three of their four matches on the road (D1) before that defeat.

Pre-round, only Bologna have gained more Serie A points than Milan’s seven (W2, D1, L1) from losing positions this season. Sassuolo have not dropped any points from winning positions this term (W6). Only Pisa have failed to score in more Serie A first halves this season than Sassuolo’s ten.

Christian Pulisic netted a decisive brace after the hour mark against Torino, with that his 11th consecutive goalscoring appearance to end in a Milan win. Sassuolo’s Armand Laurienté could draw first blood here though, as four of his last five goals have served as the opener.

Rafael Leão avoided significant injury against Torino, while Sassuolo striker Andrea Pinamonti was forced off against Fiorentina.
