AC Milan come into this Coppa Italia quarter-final looking to shake off the bitter taste of conceding late on to rivals Inter on Sunday, which forced them to settle for a 1-1 draw. It’s now just two wins in five matches across all competitions for Sergio Conceicao’s side (D1, L2), who welcome Roma with an unremarkable H2H return of just two wins in the previous seven meetings (D3, L2).

That return does get better on home soil at the San Siro, where the Rossoneri have been beaten just once by Roma since 2017 (W4, D3), albeit that defeat did come in the Europa League as recently as April. Milan will look to improve on that here as they look to end a long wait for success in this competition, with their last Coppa Italia trophy arriving way back in 2003.

While some recent history might be on the hosts’ side, form is definitely with the visitors. Roma scored late on Sunday to rescue a 1-1 draw at home against Serie A leaders Napoli, extending their impressive recent run of form to just one loss in ten games across all competitions (W6, D3) meaning Claudio Ranieri’s men will almost certainly head into this contest as the more confident side of the two.

Roma have also had a long wait for Coppa Italia success, last lifting the trophy back in 2008. They’ve not travelled well in the competition in recent years either, with each of their last three Coppa Italia away games all ending in defeat – two of which saw them fail to score – including a 2-0 reverse here at the San Siro nearly three years ago to the day against Milan’s rivals Inter.

Players to watch: Midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has been loving life in front of his own fans of late, scoring three goals across his past five matches at the San Siro, the first of which came against Roma in December! Angeliño has been the hero for Roma this week, with his first goals of the season coming against Frankfurt in European action on Thursday and then Napoli on Sunday.

Hot streak: Milan have not kept a clean sheet against Roma in any of the last 11 H2Hs (W5, D4, L2).
