The dream of winning an unprecedented four Supercoppa Italiana titles in succession remains alive for Inter Milan, who beat Serie A league-leaders Atalanta 2-0 in their semi-final on Thursday evening. Achieving that feat would see Simone Inzaghi’s side draw level with Juventus on nine victories overall, further confirming their position as one of the top sides in recent years in Italian football.

Inter are on a great run of form heading into this final, with their run of seven competitive victories in domestic competitions all complimented by a margin of at least two goals. The Nerazzurri don’t just rely on their offense though, as they kept five six clean sheets during this run, including the last five in a row. Great starts characterise them as well as Inter have opened the scoring in 17 of the last 19 competitive matches, starting with a first minute strike against Udinese back in September.

It was the perfect debut for AC Milan’s new manager Sergio Conceição who got “angry” with his players at half-time against Juventus in their semi-final, motivating them to a second-half comeback. His strategy worked and he’ll now hope to go one better than in 2022 when AC Milan lost 3-0 in the final against Inter, and with Conceição declaring he is “not here to make friends, but to win,” don’t be surprised to see an extremely competitive and combative Rossoneri take to the field again.

This will be the third ever Supercoppa Italiana final to see a Milan Derby after the 2011 and 2022 editions, with both sides winning one apiece. Recent H2H history doesn’t favour AC Milan as their 2-1 victory in September was their first in seven meetings (L6), although there are some positives, as after four scoring blanks, AC Milan have at least found the net in each of the last three H2Hs – a feat they last did between 2020 and 2021.

Players to watch: Denzel Dumfries scored a second-half double against Atalanta, netting a brace for Inter for the first time in his career, whilst each of his last six goals for the club arrived after the break. Christian Pulisic scored the opener in a surprising 2-1 victory for AC Milan in the first H2H of this season, whilst he also netted the equaliser against Juventus in the semi-final.

Hot stat: Just two of Inter’s last 13 competitive matches have seen both teams find the net (W11, D1, L1).
