Two teams heading in seemingly opposite directions meet at Selhurst Park in the Premier League as a freefalling Crystal Palace welcome a Chelsea side who’ve made a solid start under new boss Liam Rosenior. Palace are winless in the last 17 H2Hs, although they did manage draws in each of the last three meetings (L14). Palace have not beaten Chelsea at home since 2017 (D1, L6). Chelsea have won just 42% of their league games as pre-match favourites this season (W8, D5, L6).

Defeat at Sunderland last weekend represented a seventh successive winless Premier League game for Crystal Palace (D2, L5), a longer ongoing run in the division than everyone except Burnley (13) ahead of this round. Now without a victory in ten matches across all competitions (D3, L10), the Eagles were then dealt another blow with the sale of captain Marc Guéhi, much to the dismay of outgoing manager Oliver Glasner, who has also seen Jean-Philippe Mateta angling for a move this week. While a replacement for the Austrian is identified behind the scenes, Glasner will be focused on ending a seven-game winless home sequence (D4, L3), but as only West Ham have picked up fewer points than Palace in top-flight London derbies since the start of the 2022/23 season, this appears to be far from an ideal fixture.

Only Arsenal have accumulated more points than Chelsea’s 73 in Premier League London derbies in that time, a tally that Rosenior will hope to add to against wounded opponents. After an unconvincing 1-0 win over Pafos in midweek UEFA Champions League action, Rosenior has won three of his opening four matches with the Blues and could now become the first English manager to win his first two Premier League games in charge of a club since Steven Gerrard in 2021. That is certainly not guaranteed as heading into this matchday, only the bottom-two sides Burnley and Wolves have picked up fewer points in the division than Chelsea’s three across their last five away games (D3, L2).

Palace have earned just one league point when conceding first this season (L5). Eight of the 12 home goals Palace conceded this term came after half-time. Chelsea have scored in a Premier League-high 20 games this term.

Yeremy Pino has scored in back-to-back games for the first time for Palace, albeit both goals came in defeats, as he now seeks what would be a sixth strike for the club but a first at Selhurst Park. Chelsea’s Cole Palmer got the opener in last season’s corresponding fixture, although he heads into this match looking to avoid a third straight game accompanied by a yellow card.

Neither side seem to have any fresh absentees.
