If Atlético Madrid’s already faint La Liga title hopes are to stay alive, then a home win against a Mallorca side battling against relegation is a must. Atlético are unbeaten in the last six La Liga H2Hs (W5, D1) and have won three successive meetings on this ground. Mallorca have failed to score on their last two visits here, but have never blanked in three consecutive away H2Hs against Atleti in La Liga history. Simeone’s 13 career La Liga victories over opposite number Arrasate is a joint all-time record in the competition (D1, L1).

A pre-round eight-point deficit to leaders and defending champions Barcelona means that Atlético’s ambition of a third title under Diego Simeone is hanging by a thread. They boast a comfortable gap inside the top four which means the UEFA Champions League takes on greater importance, making a low-key 1-1 draw away at Galatasaray in midweek all the more disappointing. Atleti should be more than confident of getting back on track here given that they’ve won their last 12 home matches across all competitions and were last beaten at the Metropolitano in April.

Mallorca begin the weekend just two points clear of the relegation zone, but at least arrive in the capital on a high after a morale-boosting 3-2 win over Athletic Club last week. Backing that up appears tricky as problems have tended to follow Jagoba Arrasate’s men on the road, with a measly five of their 21 points earned in away matches (W1, D2, L7). Their last such victory came in October (D2, L3), yet Mallorca may carry quiet confidence having racked up more away wins against sides from the Community of Madrid across their last eight visits (W3, D1, L4) than in their prior 20 (W2, D2, L16).

Atlético have scored first in all ten of their home league matches this season. Twenty of the 30 league goals Mallorca have conceded this term came before half-time. Mallorca have won just one of their last ten Sunday-held away league games (D4, L5).

Three of Julián Alvarez’s last four goals for Atlético have been match openers, but he’d be grateful for a strike at any time at present as he’s on a nine-game scoring drought in the league, his longest since April 2024. Vedat Muriqi has no such worries with five goals in his last three Mallorca games, three of which came against Athletic last week to move him to 48 goals for the Pirates in La Liga, just six shy of the club record held by Samuel Eto’o (54).

Neither side look to be suffering from any fresh injuries.
