A meeting of two of the Premier League’s bottom three hardly tops the billing this weekend, but this clash between Burnley and West Ham could have huge ramifications on the relegation battle. Burnley have won none of the last seven Premier League H2Hs (D3, L4), while West Ham have won on five of their last nine visits to Turf Moor (D2, L2). Five of Burnley’s last six home games saw both teams score and over 3.5 goals.

Sitting 11 points adrift of safety pre-round, Burnley already have one foot in the Championship, and they’re starting to show signs they’re going down with a whimper. Boss Scott Parker branded Monday night’s 3-0 defeat to Sunderland as “unacceptable”, but there appears to be little hope of seeing a response here considering his side are now winless in 15 league games (D5, L10). The Clarets are now closing in on their top-flight club-record of 17 winless games set back in 1889/90, and although they’ve drawn three of their last four league games at Turf Moor, Burnley have only won one Premier League home match against a side from the capital since February 2022.

After winning back-to-back league games, West Ham were unlucky to go down 3-2 against Chelsea last weekend despite holding a 2-0 lead at half-time. There were still plenty of positives to take from that game for Hammers boss Nuno Espírito Santo, but he’ll be looking for points over positives as his side enter this round six points adrift of safety. Picking up nine of their ten away league points this season against sides outside of the top nine (W2, D3, L2) makes this look like a favourable assignment on paper, but having already lost away to the other two promoted sides this season, they risk suffering defeat in all three such games of a campaign for the first time since 2009/10, which included a 2-1 defeat on this ground.

Burnley have conceded a joint-league high five home goals before the 15th minute this season. West Ham games have seen a pre-round league-high 15 goals scored inside the opening 15 minutes this season. Five of West Ham’s last six league matches saw both teams score.

Burnley’s Zian Flemming returned from injury on Monday, but he’s tasted defeat on four of his five scoring appearances this season, including the reverse fixture. Tomáš Souček scored in the reverse fixture and netted the winner on West Ham’s last visit to Turf Moor. All three of his career goals against Burnley arrived after the 70th minute.

Burnley are close to full strength here, while West Ham will be without Jean-Clair Todibo after his red card against Chelsea.
