Continually stranded at the foot of the Premier League table, Wolves may sense an opportunity to finally register a win when they host an out-of-form Brentford side. Brentford are unbeaten in the last three H2Hs (W2, D1), and have lost just one of their four Premier League visits to Molineux (W2, D1).

Wolves experienced heartbreak on a new level in their 2-1 loss at leaders Arsenal last week, netting a last-gasp equaliser only to have a point snatched away by conceding a second own goal of the game moments later. That was their ninth successive league defeat – a new negative club record, and another reversal here would make them just the fourth side to ever lose 10+ Premier League games in a row within the same season. Protests against the ownership have become increasingly commonplace inside Molineux, and little wonder with the Old Gold winless in their last ten home league games (D2, L8), their worst streak since a run of 12 ending in May 2012.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews – a former Wolves player – and his side arrive in underwhelming form themselves having failed to win any of their four games this month (D1, L3), losing 2-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in midweek. The Bees’ last league outing saw them score first in a 1-1 draw with Leeds, taking their tally of points dropped from winning positions to a league-high 13 this campaign. Despite starting the round in 15th, Brentford sit closer to the top six than the relegation zone in terms of points, but maintaining pace looks tricky given that they’ve lost their last five away matches while scoring just once.

Each of Wolves’ last six matches stood level at half-time. Five of Wolves’ last seven home league matches saw both teams score. Brentford’s last four matches all produced under 2.5 goals. Brentford have lost nine of their 12 Premier League away matches played in December (W1, D2).

Wolves’ Matt Doherty has been booked in four of his last five Premier League matches, committing 2+ fouls in each of those four games. Brentford’s Jordan Henderson has netted the match opener in all of his last four scoring appearances, while his only career H2H goal also broke the deadlock.

Wolves will be without the suspended defender Yerson Mosquera, whose defensive partner Emmanuel Agbadou has departed for the Africa Cup of Nations alongside Brentford’s Dango Ouattara and Frank Onyeka.
