With pressure building on West Ham boss Nuno Espírito Santo, this clash against a Nottingham Forest side who sacked him earlier this season has a must-win feel to it. West Ham won the reverse fixture 3-0 when Nuno was still in charge of Forest, but it was the Tricky Trees who had won the three prior H2Hs. There hasn’t been a draw in this fixture since October 2003 (WHU: W8, L6). West Ham are unbeaten in their last 14 Tuesday-held Premier League home games (W9, D5).

No manager has ever been sacked twice in the same Premier League season before, but there is growing belief that it’s a fate that could befall Nuno if West Ham can’t snap their nine-match winless league run here (D4, L5). It was the latest result that provided the biggest ignominy as the Hammers were beaten 3-0 by another of Nuno’s former sides, Wolves, as they became the first team this season to be beaten by the basement dwellers. Nuno himself labelled that performance as “embarrassing”, and few can rule out more embarrassment at what will undoubtedly be a toxic London Stadium where West Ham have only won two of their last 13 league games (D3, L8).

This clash has the feel of a proverbial ‘El Sackico’, as Forest boss Sean Dyche is also coming under increasing pressure on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend which stretched their losing league run to four matches. It was widely expected that Dyche’s appointment would all but rubberstamp Forest’s top-flight status, but it hasn’t worked out that way for the Tricky Trees, with Dyche suffering as many losses in his last six Premier League games as Nuno did in his last 15 for Forest! Owner Evangelos Marinakis isn’t famed for his patient approach, so Forest slumping to a fourth successive away league defeat for the first time since April 2023 could prove fatal for Dyche.

West Ham have conceded 2+ goals in eight of their last nine home league matches. Forest scored exactly once in four of their last six Tuesday-held Premier League games. Only one of Forest’s last seven away league matches saw both teams score.

West Ham’s Callum Wilson closed the scoring in the reverse fixture, but that’s one of just two of his last ten goals at club level to arrive after half-time. Morgan Gibbs-White’s consolation against Villa was his fourth successive Forest goal to arrive after half-time and his third in a row to serve as the third of the game.

West Ham’s Lucas Paquetá missed their weekend clash with Wolves, while Forest goalkeeper John Victor was withdrawn with an injury at the weekend.
