Despite not being at their best in midweek against Fulham, West Ham eventually secured a 3-2 triumph, an outcome which new manager Graham Potter will have been delighted with. That result represented Potter’s first win in charge of the Irons, and he’s now aiming to deliver successive Premier League victories for the club for the first time since last March.
Standing in his side’s way are Crystal Palace, but as West Ham have scored in each of their last 21 Premier League games against the Eagles – their longest scoring run against an opponent in top-flight history – Potter will be confident that his men can claim another victory here. The east Londoners are also looking to complete a first league double in this fixture since 2016/17, after winning 2-0 back in August at Selhurst Park.
Palace are unlikely to be pushovers here though, as after defeating Leicester City 2-0 on the road during their own midweek encounter, the Eagles are now unbeaten in their last six away league matches – their longest such streak in the top flight since February 1992. That in turn made it just one loss in their last ten league fixtures (W4, D5), as Oliver Glasner’s side continue to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.
What will further raise spirits in the visiting dressing room is the fact that Palace are unbeaten in their last five away Premier League H2Hs (W2, D3), with last season’s corresponding fixture finishing 1-1. During that run, their bouncebackability has been a major reason for their success, as even though they’ve conceded the opener in each of the last three such matches, they’ve fought back to get something out of those encounters.
Players to watch: West Ham’s Tomáš Souček took his tally to five league goals this campaign on Tuesday, while against no side has he scored more Premier League goals than Crystal Palace (four), netting the winner in the reverse H2H. Palace captain Marc Guéhi netted his sixth career Premier League goal on Wednesday, with all six of those coming from set-piece situations and five coming away from home.
Hot stat: Three of West Ham’s last four home Premier League matches have featured at least one goal scored after the 70th minute.
