The picture is looking pretty bleak for Venezia, who start this round five points adrift of safety on the back of a six-match winless league run (D3, L3). That forms part of a larger run of just one win in 13 league games (D5, L7), but those praying for a revival may take some hope from the fact that Venezia won this corresponding fixture against Roma 3-2 last time they were in the top-flight.

Venezia will have to create a little piece of history to boost their survival hopes here though, as never before have they won successive home Serie A H2Hs. The most concerning thing about Roma’s away form is that their win against Udinese ended a 13-match winless league run prior (D7, L6), but under Claudio Ranieri they’ve built a good platform to keep building as only Inter (30) have scored more goals than the Giallorossi in Serie A (20) since the Italian returned.

Players to watch: A goal from Venezia’s Hans Nicolussi Caviglia might not be a great omen given all three of his home scoring appearances this season saw the opposition score exactly twice. Artem Dovbyk was on target in Roma’s Coppa Italia defeat, netting his fourth goal from his last five at club level to arrive after half-time.
