After stuttering in their last two games, top-four chasing Roma look to get back on track against a Cagliari side caught in a mid-table abyss. Cagliari won the reverse H2H 1-0 but they’re winless in their last ten visits to Roma (D2, L8), with seven of those defeats coming to nil. Roma have kept nine first-half clean sheets from their 11 Serie A home games this term.
Winning neither of their last two Serie A games (D1, L1) has seen Roma slip off the pace in the race for the top four. They come into this round two points adrift of fourth place, but they should be confident of returning to winning ways this weekend having not gone three Serie A games without a victory since December 2024. Five wins from their last seven home league games (D1, L1) at least suggest the Stadio Olimpico is the best place to get back on track, yet having been beaten by Udinese last Monday – a fourth defeat in their last seven Monday-held league games (W3) – rounding off the Serie A weekend could bring a sense of trepidation with it.
Cagliari’s season is heading for mid-table obscurity, as they find themselves 11 points clear of the drop zone and 13 shy of the top six pre-round. While that would hint at inconsistency this term, they’ve hit a purple patch lately, winning each of their last three Serie A games. Those victories helped contribute to the Islanders collecting more than 27 points after 23 Serie A matches for only the second time in their last 14 top-flight campaigns, and afford them the chance to secure four successive Serie A victories for the first time since October 2012. Hitting the road could prove to be their undoing in pursuit of that feat though, as Cagliari have won just two of their last 11 competitive away games (D4, L5).
Eight of Roma’s last nine games featured under 2.5 goals. Eight of Cagliari’s 12 away league games this season saw both teams score. Cagliari have received a pre-round joint-league high 53 Serie A yellow cards this campaign.
Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini tends to be in the thick of the action against Cagliari, picking up three goals, two assists, two yellow cards and one red in just nine personal Serie A H2Hs. Cagliari’s Semih Kılıçsoy could be eyeing up a late impact having netted six of his last nine club goals on or beyond the hour mark.
Roma’s fitness issues are centred in attack after Paulo Dybala missed their last game, joining Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson in the treatment room. Cagliari have no new injury concerns.
