Lyon will be aiming to continue their 100% winning start to the season when they travel to Rennes on Sunday in the final game of matchday four in Ligue 1. None of the last nine H2Hs have been drawn, with Rennes just having the edge in those games (W5, L4). Rennes have won three of their last four home games against Lyon in Ligue 1 (L1), as many as in their previous 16 (D5, L8).

Rennes recovered from a bruising 4-0 loss to Breton rivals Lorient by drawing 1-1 at Angers before the international break, and the Red and Blacks will be glad to return home as they seek to tip the balance on their Ligue 1 records this season (W1, D1, L1). Looking to earn a fourth successive home league victory for the first time since August 2023, Rennes are seemingly in the perfect place to get their season back on track. They’ll perhaps have to tighten up defensively to do so, as before this weekend’s action, only Real Oviedo (69) and Levante (57) had conceded more shots than Rennes (56) in top-five European leagues this season.

Alongside Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon were the only other team to have won their opening three Ligue 1 games this season after beating fierce rivals Marseille 1-0 in the Choc des Olympiques before the international break. Manager Paulo Fonseca is serving the final match of his lengthy ban from his team’s dressing room – a suspension handed out to him in March – but in his absence from the dugout, Lyon have racked up clean-sheet wins in their last four encounters. A continuation of that streak here would see Les Gones secure successive Ligue 1 away wins with accompanying clean sheets for the first time since February 2021.

Rennes have received three first-half red cards already this season. Rennes’ draw at Angers in the last round was their first Ligue 1 stalemate since October 2024. Lyon haven’t drawn any of their last 18 league games. Eleven of the last 12 away goals Lyon scored in Ligue 1 arrived after half-time.

Estéban Lepaul extended his unbeaten run of scoring appearances to ten (W9, D1) by opening the scoring against Angers in the last round. Pavel Šulc got off the mark in Lyon colours with the winner against Marseille – his eighth victory in his last nine games for club and country when finding the net (L1).

Rennes’ Mahdi Camara is suspended for this fixture, while Ernest Nuamah is Lyon’s only notable absentee.
