Fourth-placed Lyon will look to continue their rich vein of form at home to Lille, who sit four points behind them after a three-game Ligue 1 losing streak. Lyon are unbeaten in the last six H2Hs (W5, D1), with all five of those wins – including a 2-1 victory in the Coupe de France in mid-January – coming by a single-goal margin. Lyon kept a clean sheet in just one of their last 12 home games against Lille.
Nine successive wins in all competitions, including four in Ligue 1, have transformed Lyon’s season. Paulo Fonseca’s men were 5-2 victors over Metz last week as they kept pace with the top-three, which they trail by just two points pre-round, while beating PAOK 4-2 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday secured Les Gones automatic progression to the last 16 courtesy of finishing top of the league phase. Their attention now returns to domestic matters, where Lyon are targeting a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 win for the first time since December 2020, and they’ll be confident of sealing the deal having won each of their last three league outings on home soil.
Lille were also in Europa League action on Thursday, beating Freiburg 1-0 to book their place in the knockout play-offs. That result offered precious respite for Les Dogues who had lost five successive matches across all competitions prior, including all three in Ligue 1 to open 2026, most recently being thumped 4-1 by Strasbourg. That dismal run has seen Lille drop below their hosts here in the table and seen their buffer inside the top-six almost completely dissipate, so it’s crucial they avoid a fourth successive Ligue 1 loss for the first time since September 2016, but losing all three of their away games without reply against sides in the pre-round top-seven hardly inspires belief in their abilities here.
Six of Lyon’s last seven league goals came before half-time. None of Lille’s last 20 competitive games ended in a draw (W10, L10). Lille have conceded 2+ goals after half-time in their last four league matches.
Lyon’s Adam Karabec made amends for his penalty miss against PAOK with a goal later in the contest, his fourth consecutive strike at club level to come after the hour mark. Matias Fernandez-Pardo’s goal against Strasbourg on Sunday was the first time in 12 games that he has been on the losing side when scoring (W9, D2).
Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso sat out their midweek game with injury, while Lille’s Thomas Meunier was also sidelined on Thursday.
