Real Madrid must rally after their recent UEFA Champions League (UCL) disappointment if they’re to keep their slim La Liga title hopes alive as Alavés, fighting for their survival, arrive keen to take advantage of any fallout. Real Madrid have won each of the last eight meetings and one more would equal their previous best H2H run in the league against Alavés, who have lost 17 of their 19 La Liga away H2Hs (W2). Real Madrid have conceded the fewest first-half goals in La Liga this season (11).

Following their UCL exit at the hands of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid are facing the prospect of a second consecutive season without a trophy, something president Florentino Pérez recently described as “intolerable”. They could still mathematically win La Liga, but it’s an unlikely scenario given they’re nine points behind Barcelona with seven rounds remaining having failed to win a league game in April (D1, L1). Defensive issues still plague Los Blancos as they’ve conceded in each of their last eight La Liga fixtures, their worst run since September 2019, but seven wins from their last nine home league games (D1, L1) show they have the firepower to overcome that at the Bernabéu.

Alavés have put together a four-game unbeaten run in La Liga (W1, D3), their longest of the season, but even only losing two of their last eight (W1, D5) hasn’t quite been enough to put much daylight between themselves and the relegation zone. El Glorioso start this round just a point ahead of 18th-placed Elche after drawing 3-3 with Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad in the last round, and may well need to continue a run of scoring at least twice in each of their last three away league games (W1, D1, L1) if they’re to have any chance of breathing a little easier come the end of the evening.

Real Madrid have a 100% winning record in Tuesday-held La Liga home matches (W15). Each of Alavés’s last five La Liga fixtures saw both teams score. Alavés have conceded first in 12 of their 16 away league outings this term.

Vinícius Júnior has scored four times for Real Madrid against Alavés at home and seven of his last eight goals this term came after half-time. Ibrahim Diabate got off the mark for Alavés against Sociedad and each of his last six club goals came before half-time.

Real Madrid’s Raúl Asencio is absent through illness, while Thibaut Courtois and Rodrygo remain unavailable. Alavés forward Abderrahman Rebbach is suspended.
