Parma’s defeat at Cagliari last weekend was their 12th league loss of the season and their eighth by a one-goal margin. Now without a win in six games (D2, L4) and having won just one of their last ten matches (D2, L7), Fabio Pecchia’s side remain in Serie A’s relegation zone and positive results are needed quickly if they are to extend their top-flight stay beyond a single campaign.

If the Crusaders are beaten on Sunday, it will mark the first time they have lost four Serie A games in a row since May 2021, when a nine-game losing run led to their eventual relegation. On the flip side, a positive result could well see Parma rise out of the bottom three, and if they need an inspiring omen, it comes in the shape of consecutive H2H home victories against Roma, both by a 2-0 margin.

Claudio Ranieri’s side make the trip to the Stadio Ennio Tardini having lost only three of their last 16 matches across all competitions (W9, D4). After picking up a draw away from home in their UEFA Europa League (UEL) play-off first leg against Porto in midweek, despite seeing a man sent off, attention now turns back to the league, where they sit eight points behind the top six pre-round.

The Yellow and Reds are unbeaten in their last eight Serie A outings (W5, D3) after scoring 2+ goals five times during that sequence. Roma now have the chance to record successive clean sheets in the league for the first time this season, but must improve on a record of just two wins in games which have directly followed their UEL action so far this term (D2, L4).

Key battle: Zion Suzuki has not made 3+ saves in any of Parma’s last four games and December’s reverse fixture saw him concede five goals. Alexis Saelemaekers recorded two goal involvements (G1, A1) for Roma that day and has won both of his career H2Hs with Parma to date.
