After earning his 400th career win as a manager last weekend, Napoli boss Antonio Conte will look to celebrate with a victory against Como to book a spot in the Coppa Italia semi-finals. The teams contested a goalless draw this season in Serie A, and although Como have won four of the last six competitive H2Hs (D1, L1), three of those victories came before 2005. Como scored ten of their last 15 goals away from home in or after the 60th minute.
Napoli needed a stoppage-time penalty to win 3-2 at Genoa on Saturday for back-to-back victories in Serie A to remain in a very strong position to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Crucial league games against Roma and Atalanta are up next after this cup tie, but a chance to reach their first Coppa Italia semi-final since the 2020/21 campaign should keep the Partenopei focused on this fixture. The six-time champions relied on penalties to defeat Cagliari in the previous round in Naples, and playing at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona could again be a positive omen as they have lost just one of their 16 matches across all competitions there this term (W11, D4).
Como didn’t play last weekend and were last in action on 1st February when they failed to beat ten-man Atalanta, seeing a penalty saved in a 0-0 draw. The Lariani are still in good form with six wins from their last nine games (D2, L1) and victory here would land them their first Coppa Italia semi-final berth in 40 years! That would make it only their second-ever last-four appearance in this competition and Cesc Fàbregas’ men won’t mind being away from home at all. The visitors have won on their last four trips, scoring exactly three goals in each of those encounters while keeping three clean sheets.
Napoli scored exactly two goals in eight of their last 13 matches. Four of Napoli’s last six Coppa Italia home games went to extra time or beyond. Just three of Como’s last 12 matches saw both teams score.
Rasmus Højlund got Napoli’s winner against Genoa, but it was the first time in eight scoring appearances for them that he has not netted their second goal of the game. Tasos Douvikas may take time to warm up here, as four of his last five goals have come after the hour mark, including three on the road for Como.
Napoli star Scott McTominay went off injured against Genoa, while Como seemingly have no fresh absentees.
