After suffering their sixth defeat across their last eight competitive matches when losing 2-1 to Lecce, Monza continued their downturn and remained in the bottom three with just one league win this season (D7, L8). The gravity of the situation is underlined by the fact that Monza had seven more points at this stage of their debut Serie A season in 2022/23, when they had to wait until round seven for their maiden win at home to upcoming opponents Juventus.

Trying to stop their current three-game losing streak at Stadio Brianteo – all of which saw Monza trailing 1-0 at half-time – will be a prime task for Alessandro Nesta’s men. Doing so here won’t be easy for a Monza side who have earned a league-low three points at home (D3, L6), but with two of those three draws coming against Roma and Inter Milan, there is definitely a hope for the hosts.

It took only a few days for Juventus to come down from the highs of a 2-0 win against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League to register another stalemate in Serie A. The centre of attention during their failure to beat rock-bottom Venezia (D 2-2) was Dušan Vlahović, who went from hero to zero, when after converting a last-gasp penalty he proceeded to enter a heated exchange with some Juventus’ fans moments after the final whistle.

For Juventus, it was their fourth consecutive league draw and saw them set an unwanted club record for the most stalemates in their first 16 games of a Serie A season (ten). Their matches have remained interesting right through to the final moments though, with each of their last three Serie A games seeing one team equalise during stoppage time.

Players to watch: Owing to Juventus’ current stalemate issues, Milan Djurić has scored five of his last seven goals in draws, while his only goal against this opponent came in a 2-2 draw. Juventus defender Federico Gatti can also be a danger in the final third, as four of his last five Serie A goals were game openers, including the one against Venezia last weekend.
