Levante continue to hurtle towards La Liga relegation and now have to tackle a Villarreal side struggling to retain their top-four position. This will be the first H2H meeting since 2021/22, but Levante have won five of seven competitive meetings at home since the start of 2015/16 (L2). Villarreal led by one goal at half-time in each of their five La Liga away wins this season.

Levante are in an ominous position on 18 points, still less than halfway to the threshold of 38 or more points that was required to survive each of the past four seasons. Their bridge to fifth place has been reduced from seven points in the middle of January to just four at the end of the weekend thanks in part to their three-game winless run on the road in this competition (D1, L2), in which they were favourites against both Osasuna (D 2-2) and Getafe (L 2-1). With a game against lowly Valencia at home this coming weekend, the next several days could be crucial to Villarreal kickstarting their UEFA Champions League pursuit.

Levante’s Karl Etta Eyong could be inspired by the sight of his former teammates as he continues searching to rediscover his formidable early season form that saw him score in four of his first five games for his new club.
