After a goalless draw to open their Serie A season, Genoa will be hoping their defence can remain just as resilient against prolific goalscorers Juventus. Juventus are on a run of three consecutive H2H matches without conceding (W2, D1), whilst scoring exactly three times in three of their last five outings against Genoa here (W3, D1, L1). The Bianconeri also dominate the all-time record (W87, D30, L27).
Genoa and Lecce shared the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate at Marassi Stadium, in what was their fourth consecutive Serie A match without victory (D1, L3). It means they’re halfway to squandering what should be an advantageous start of back-to-back home games, and whilst it’s unlikely that Genoa boss Patrick Vieira will have to wait until January for their first home league victory as they did last season, their winless Serie A record at home to top-half finishers last season (D3, L7) doesn’t set them up for success here.
Juventus started their new Serie A campaign by beating Parma 2-0 in a match that saw Dušan Vlahović score and make peace with fans. With their offensive issues likely to be solved, Juventus can focus on repeating last season’s impressive start which saw them keep a clean sheet in their first six outings (W3, D3) of the league season. Juventus are also unbeaten in their opening away trip of a new season since 2015, winning their last two such matches 3-0, whilst the Bianconeri were confident travellers last term when winning six of their ten away outings against bottom-half sides (D3, L1) thanks to five clean sheets.
Genoa have had 22 Serie A matches remain level at half-time since the start of last season, the equal-most of all clubs at the end of matchday one. Since the start of last season, no team has scored fewer than Genoa’s 12 first-half Serie A goals. Ten of Juventus’ last 13 away league matches saw both teams score. Only two of Juventus’ last ten Serie A matches produced over 2.5 goals.
Nicolae Stanciu opened his account for Genoa with a Coppa Italia goal, which was the fourth of his last five competitive goals to arrive after the break. Dušan Vlahović rounded off the scoring for Juventus last weekend to see five of his last six goals arriving beyond the 80th minute and he scored a second-half double here last term.
Genoa appear to be close to full strength, whilst Juventus will be missing Andrea Cambiaso who was sent off last weekend.
