Genoa’s unbeaten Serie A run faces arguably its sternest test yet as they welcome title-chasing Inter Milan, who are embroiled in an enthralling battle at the summit. Inter are unbeaten across the last 12 Serie A H2Hs (W9, D3), although all three draws came across the last three meetings on this ground. Inter have scored a pre-round league-high 12 first-half Serie A goals.

Unbeaten in five Serie A games (W3, D2), things are looking up for Genoa, who have managed to lift themselves four points clear of the drop zone pre-round. Four of those outings came under new manager Daniele De Rossi, who after overseeing back-to-back league wins against Verona and Udinese, could now become the first Genoa manager to guide them to three consecutive top-flight victories since Davide Ballardini in February 2021. The last Italian manager of Genoa to go unbeaten across his first five top-flight matches was Bruno Giorgi in 1992, so De Rossi could make a slice of history here, although a run of just one win from Genoa’s last ten Serie A home games (D3, L6) suggests that’s far from a foregone conclusion.

Inter will no doubt be glad to return to the domestic scene, where they’ve excelled of late. The same can’t be said in Europe, where a midweek defeat to Liverpool condemned them to successive UEFA Champions League defeats and left their top-eight position looking much more precarious. Five wins from their last six Serie A games have left their league position looking much more positive, as the Nerazzurri start the round just a point off top spot, a gap that looks closable based on their return of four wins from their last five away league games (L1), as well as a 100% winning record against sides starting this round 13th or lower (W5).

Genoa are the only Serie A side not to see a goal scored at either end after the 75th minute in a home league game this term. Genoa have only won two Serie A games after scoring first this season (D2, L3). Inter have received a league-low 20 yellow cards this season.

On loan from Inter’s bitter rivals AC Milan, Genoa’s Lorenzo Colombo hasn’t seen any of his last seven club goals arrive later than the hour mark. Inter’s Marcus Thuram scored a brace in last season’s corresponding fixture, scoring either side of half-time, just as he’s done in three of his five scoring club appearances this term.

Morten Frendrup missed Genoa’s last match through injury, while Inter lost both Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Francesco Acerbi to first-half injuries in midweek.
