Eintracht Frankfurt’s memorable 2024/25 campaign will have the Deutsche Bank Park faithful buzzing for this season, as they face an improving Werder Bremen on the opening day. Werder Bremen won the most recent H2H 2-0 in April, but had won just one of the previous 11 meetings (D5, L5). Frankfurt have lost their opening game in three of the last four Bundesliga seasons. Werder Bremen themselves have shown constant improvement since being promoted in 2021/22, also climbing the table in each of the previous campaigns to reach eighth last time out.

Eintracht Frankfurt produced their highest Bundesliga finish since 1992/93 last season when they finished third, marking the third successive season that they’ve improved their Bundesliga position compared to the season before. This time it’s granted Dino Toppmöller’s men UEFA Champions League football, a feat that will no doubt soften the blow of losing the likes of Hugo Ekitike and defender Tuta in the summer transfer window. Having also lost Omar Marmoush in January, Eintracht Frankfurt have moved to strengthen their forward line while weakening their rivals, signing Jonathan Burkardt and Ritsu Dōan from Mainz and Freiburg respectively.

This season will be challenging as they’re under new leadership, with Ole Werner replaced in the dugout by Horst Steffen. His reign started off terribly as they were dumped out of the DFB-Pokal after a 1-0 loss to Arminia Bielefeld, and the transfer window has been rather quiet, with the only notable incoming being Samuel Mbangula from Juventus for €10m – the second-highest fee they’ve ever paid for a player.

Six of Eintracht Frankfurt’s last seven home Bundesliga matches produced over 2.5 goals. Just three of Werder Bremen’s last nine games saw both teams score. No Bundesliga team won more Bundesliga away games as pre-match outsiders than Werder Bremen last season (5).

Ritsu Dōan’s Eintracht Frankfurt debut was picture perfect as he scored a brace in the DFB-Pokal, and he’ll be confident of endearing himself further to his new fans here since his last four Bundesliga goals came at home. Werder Bremen playmaker Romano Schmid usually gets into his work early with three of his last four club goals coming before half-time, the exception being an 84th minute strike against Eintracht Frankfurt in May.

Eintracht Frankfurt duo Ellyes Skhiri and Nathaniel Brown have both sat out pre-season with injury, while goalkeeper Kauã Santos has been sidelined since April. Werder Bremen are set to be without important figures Jens Stage and Mitchell Weiser for the campaign opener, while Maximilian Wöber went off injured against Bielefeld.
