Bayern Munchen have launched their campaign by breaking a Bundesliga record and now look to maintain their perfect start against Werder Bremen. Bayern Munchen have won six of the last seven H2Hs (L1), scoring at least three times in three of the last four meetings (W3, L1), and have only lost one of the last 17 H2Hs as hosts (W13, D3). Bayern Munchen have led all four of their Bundesliga fixtures this term at half-time without having conceded.
While reigning champions Bayern Munchen have matched last season’s efforts when they started their Bundesliga campaign with four straight victories, this time they have scored two more goals to set a new division record after four games (18). Hoffenheim were the latest team to suffer at their hands as the Bavarians’ new-look attack starred again to serve up a 4-1 win – their fifth successive league victory in which they have netted at least three times. Defensively sound as well, Vincent Kompany’s side are now bidding to extend a run of four consecutive Bundesliga home wins – all earned without conceding.
It has been an underwhelming start to the season for Werder Bremen (W1, D1, L2), who find themselves at the wrong end of the table after last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Freiburg, with the game getting away from them after they saw a penalty saved when 2-0 down. There is hope however as they head to the Allianz Arena, as their last two victories have been achieved away from home, with the River Islanders hard to beat on their travels, having won five of their last seven Bundesliga encounters on the road (D1, L1).
Bayern Munchen have won exactly five corners in each of those games. Werder Bremen are one of only two teams yet to concede a Bundesliga goal after the 75th minute this season. Each of Werder Bremen’s last four league away games has produced over 3.5 goals (W2, D1, L1).
Serge Gnabry, who spent a season with Werder Bremen in 2016/17, has scored in each of Bayern Munchen’s last three Bundesliga games – twice making it 1-0 inside 30 minutes. Werder Bremen’s Jens Stage has been busy since returning from injury, finding the net and collecting a booking in two appearances. He is also a potential early scorer here, as his last four goals have all arrived before the 35th minute.
Bayern Munchen have fewer options than they would like in defence with Sacha Boey, Kim Min-jae and Josip Stanišić potentially all sidelined, while Werder Bremen are hopeful of a return for Samuel Mbangula, who missed the Freiburg game with a thigh injury.
