The Bundesliga’s first action of 2026 pits two European hopefuls against each other as seventh-place Eintracht Frankfurt host second-place Borussia Dortmund. Eintracht Frankfurt have won just one of the last eight H2Hs (D1, L6), but that was in this fixture last season. Borussia Dortmund have long since dominated this match-up though, winning more Bundesliga games against Eintracht Frankfurt (51) than against any other side. Borussia Dortmund have conceded seven of their eight away league goals this season after half-time.

One win in four Bundesliga games to round off 2025 (D2, L1) harmed Eintracht Frankfurt’s European ambitions, and with that part of a wider streak of one win in six in all competitions (D2, L3), the winter break was perhaps opportunely timed for them. With their UEFA Champions League campaign in tatters, Dino Toppmöller’s side will perhaps be prioritising the Bundesliga, knowing a victory here will provisionally lift them into the top five. The fact that only Bayern Munich have beaten Borussia Dortmund in the league this season shows just how dominant they’ve been, and few would bet against that dominance extending here given Borussia Dortmund have collected more away points this season (15) than Eintracht Frankfurt have at home (13).

Ten of Eintracht Frankfurt’s 15 Bundesliga games this season saw both teams score. Eintracht Frankfurt have scored exactly once in four of their last five competitive matches. Borussia Dortmund have led at half-time in six of their last seven Bundesliga games.

Hugo Larsson scored the equalizer for Eintracht Frankfurt last matchday against Hamburg, with that his sixth successive club strike to serve as Eintracht Frankfurt’s first of the day. Julian Brandt has scored in three successive games for Borussia Dortmund and has netted in three of his last four personal away H2Hs, including in the DFB-Pokal earlier this season.

Alongside a raft of injured players, Eintracht Frankfurt will also be without Ellyes Skhiri and Farès Chaibi due to the Africa Cup of Nations. Borussia Dortmund can blame the same competition for Ramy Bensebaini’s absence.
