It’s a late Sunday evening finish for Chelsea, who were playing in Kazakhstan on Thursday and didn’t arrive home until Friday morning. He has a big enough squad, but manager Enzo Maresca wants few, if any, of the players involved in beating Astana 3-1 to play here as they try to build on a four-match winning streak in the Premier League that saw them start the round behind only Liverpool.

After an eight-hour flight from Almaty, playing at home should help the Blues, who’ve alternated between wins and draws across their last six home league fixtures (W3, D3). Two of those stalemates were in London derbies but this could prove their trickiest encounter yet given they’ve lost all three Premier League meetings with Brentford at Stamford Bridge.

Brentford fans may be dreaming of a European campaign of their own next season after their 4-2 win over Newcastle saw them end the previous matchday inside the top half having lost just one of their last five league outings (W3, D1). They’ve never previously had as many points (23) after 15 games of a Premier League campaign, highlighting the progress they’ve made since arriving in the top-flight.

Something has to give here, as although the Bees have won their last three league visits to Stamford Bridge by at least a two-goal margin, they’ve been poor on the road in the league this term (D1, L6). Despite bottom-of-the-table Southampton being the only other side yet to win a Premier League away fixture this season, manager Thomas Frank says he’s “not too concerned” about Brentford’s difficulties when travelling.

Players to watch: Jadon Sancho has netted in both of Chelsea’s last two Premier League fixtures and three of his last four club goals arrived before the 25th minute. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has scored four times across his last five appearances, and could be another early threat as three of the last four of those came between the 20th and 30th minute.
