Still unbeaten after 14 Ligue 1 matches (W10, D4), Paris Saint-Germain remain top of the tree ahead of their penultimate game before Christmas and were further buoyed by a resurgent 3-0 win in midweek Champions League action. Playing in Europe can have its drawbacks though, as three of PSG’s four draws in league action this season came in rounds directly following a Champions League clash (W2, D3).

A visit from Lyon may be music to the ears of the PSG faithful after they defeated them in the Coupe de France final earlier this year to extend their winning H2H run to three games, each of which also saw both teams score. Playing at home should boost confidence even further too, as until their recent 1-1 draw against Nantes here, PSG had won each of the six home league games prior, scoring at least three goals in five of those victories.

Sitting nine points adrift of the league leaders and just outside of the top-four ahead of the round, Pierre Sage will likely be more than pleased with his Lyon side as they sit a whopping 18 points above where they were after 14 games last season. That’s a fine way to end 2024 for Lyon, who are seeking to extend what is the second-longest ongoing streak of unbeaten league games to end the calendar year (W5, D3).

Also heading into this on the back of midweek European action, a 3-2 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, Lyon have fared much better than their hosts in league games immediately following a Thursday night Europa League clash (W4, D1). Strengthening their claims further is the fact that Lyon arrive here on the back of a six-game unbeaten run of Ligue 1 away games (W3, D3), their longest such unbeaten run since 2021.

Players to watch: PSG full-back Achraf Hakimi has contributed to a first-half goal in both of his league H2Hs against Lyon under Enrique (G1, A1), both of which ended in 4-1 victories. Alexandre Lacazette leads the way for Lyon with five league goals and he netted decisively in three of his last four scoring league appearances for the club.

Hot stat: Lyon and PSG have scored in both halves in a league-high seven games each ahead of the round.
