Undefeated across the opening two matchdays of the 2025/26 La Liga season (W1, D1), Real Betis make the long journey north-west to face slow starters Celta Vigo. Celta are in hot form in this H2H, having lost just one of their last eight La Liga clashes with Betis (W5, D2), a sequence which includes three consecutive home victories – each coming via a one-goal margin. Betis have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last nine away league outings.

After witnessing their side come seventh in La Liga last season – the club’s highest finish since 2015/16 – and qualify for Europe, Celta Vigo fans will have been hoping to witness more of the same this term, but that has not been the case so far. A 1-1 draw at Mallorca over the weekend means that they remain winless after two rounds (D1, L1), and the hosts here will now hope to avoid losing three consecutive home league games for the first time since February 2024.

If that happens, Celta’s loss will be Betis’ gain as they arrive in Galicia looking to remain unbeaten across their opening three La Liga matchdays for the first time in three years. A comfortable 1-0 victory over Deportivo Alavés at the weekend extended their run to just one defeat in their last nine league fixtures (W4, D4), though their away form has not been quite as strong, which may worry the travelling faithful, who will hope that their side can avoid recording four winless top-flight trips in succession for the first time since early October 2024.

Celta have won seven of their last eight home league games played on a Wednesday (L1). Celta have failed to score in just two of their last 16 home league matches. Betis have scored in each of their last 21 La Liga games.

Celta could once again look to talisman Iago Aspas for inspiration here, as he has netted nine goals across 18 previous La Liga meetings with Betis – with four of his last five strikes coming from the penalty spot. Betis’ Chimy Ávila similarly enjoys playing against Celta, having scored four career goals against them – his joint-most against any side in the Spanish top flight.

Defender Carl Starfelt remains Celta’s only longer-term absentee, though Betis have more significant availability issues, with Isco and Abde Ezzalzouli set to miss the trip.
