Barcelona will look to put the disappointment of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) exit behind them with a win over Celta Vigo, who are in the middle of a tight battle for European qualification. Barcelona are unbeaten in the last five La Liga H2Hs (W4, D1), which is their best run against Celta in the competition since March 2014. Barcelona could also win five consecutive home league H2Hs for the first time since December 1993. Ten of Barcelona’s league wins have come by a margin of 3+ goals this season.

A 2-1 win over Atlético Madrid in the second leg on Tuesday proved insufficient as Barcelona crashed out of the UCL quarter-finals on aggregate (3-2). The focus now shifts firmly to wrapping up the La Liga title, where they have a nine point lead at the top over Real Madrid with seven games remaining. The Blaugrana thrashed Espanyol 4-1 in the city derby last matchday for a seventh consecutive league win, the longest active run in La Liga. Camp Nou already feels like a fortress again since the stadium was reopened, with Hansi Flick’s men winning all 16 home league games this season (including at their temporary home), their longest such streak in the competition since November 2017.

Celta Vigo lost 3-1 to Freiburg in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final last Thursday, crashing out of the competition on aggregate (6-1). That was a fourth defeat in the last five competitive matches for the Celestes and this dip in form could hardly have come at a worse time. The battle for three European qualification spots outside the top four has intensified, with only five points separating four sides as the final seven rounds approach. While a solitary win in their last five league outings (D1, L3) has stalled their momentum, Claudio Giráldez’s men remain stubborn on the road with just one defeat from their last 12 league trips (W7, D4).

Barcelona are the only La Liga side yet to trail a home match at half-time this term (HT: W11, D5). Only the league’s top-two teams have scored more goals beyond the 80th minute than Celta’s 12 pre-round. Only Barcelona have won more points than Celta this season when coming from behind (W3, D5, L9).

Barcelona’s Joan García hasn’t kept a clean sheet in his last four club games, but managed one in his last personal H2H. Williot Swedberg has scored four of his last five La Liga goals away from home, with all four of his goals this season coming in Celta wins.

Fermín López took a nasty blow in the UCL, but has returned to Barcelona training. Hugo Álvarez could push for a starting role after missing Celta’s last league game.
