Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola lamented his side’s lack of ruthlessness in a 2-1 defeat to Luton last week, as the Cherries’ five-match unbeaten run (W4, D1) came to an end. That winless run since the international break has all but ended United’s top-five ambitions, and instead leaves them clinging onto their place in sixth with the chasing pack behind them gathering momentum.
A season-long defensive injury crisis has contributed to the Red Devils having a negative goal difference at this stage of a season for the first time in the Premier League era! Their vulnerability spikes later in games, particularly on the road where United have conceded 19 of their 24 league goals beyond the interval, something they’ll need to be on guard against if they’re to build on a strong recent record on this ground (W4, L1).
Players to watch: In-form winger Justin Kluivert has directly contributed to goals in back-to-back games (G1, A1) – four of his last five goals have been match openers. Casemiro may be tasked with stifling the Dutchman, but he could have one eye going forward having scored in both H2Hs last season, including striking the winner on this ground in May.
