Sunday’s Bundesliga action concludes with arguably the pick of the round as wobbling league leaders Bayern Munchen welcome a soaring Hoffenheim, who are looking to cement a top-four position. Christian Ilzer has lost all three of his games against Bayern Munchen as Hoffenheim’s manager, each time conceding 4+ goals. Hoffenheim haven’t won at the Allianz Arena since 2019 (D1, L5). Bayern Munchen have scored in both halves in a league-high 16 of their 20 league games (80%).

It’s not quite crisis mode for Bayern Munich, but a failure to beat Hamburg in the previous round saw the Bundesliga leaders drop more points in two matches (D1, L1) than they did in the first 18 rounds of the campaign (W16, D2). With the gap to Dortmund cut to six points ahead of the round, Vincent Kompany’s men must get back to their prolific best in order to maintain their stranglehold on the title race, especially seeing as they’ve fallen behind in four straight league games. That’s their worst such run since January 2021, but as Bayern Munchen have scored more goals than any Bundesliga side in history after 20 rounds (74), they should be able to recover here.

Third-placed Hoffenheim consolidated their place in the top four with a seventh straight unbeaten game (W6, D1) and a joint club-record fifth consecutive Bundesliga victory in the previous round, making them the league’s form side. A 42-point haul after 20 rounds represents Hoffenheim’s best-ever Bundesliga return at this stage, and a win here could even spark dreams of a title challenge. A reality check may be on the way however as Hoffenheim are winless in all three of their games against fellow top-four sides ahead of the round (D1, L2).

Bayern Munchen are unbeaten in league games when conceding first this season (W4, D2). Hoffenheim are averaging a league-high 2.8 points per game when scoring first ahead of the round (W9, D1). Just two of Hoffenheim’s last six games saw both teams score.

Michael Olise matched last season’s tally of 15 Bundesliga assists in the previous round, which is the most at this stage of a season by a Bayern Munchen player since Thomas Müller in 2020/21. Andrej Kramarić has five goals across his last five appearances for Hoffenheim and has only scored more goals against four other clubs than his eight against Bayern Munchen.

Bayern’s Harry Kane missed back-to-back training sessions with illness this week, while Hoffenheim’s Wouter Burger is suspended.
