Barcelona’s first home game of the season against Valencia will not be played at the revamped Spotify Camp Nou, but at the 6,000-seat capacity Estadi Johan Cruyff with attendance exclusively for club members after “administrative permits” were not obtained in time to hold the fixture at their usual stadium. Barcelona have not lost any of the last ten La Liga H2Hs (W8, D2) – their second-longest unbeaten run against Valencia. That sequence includes a 7-1 home win last season – Barça’s joint-biggest H2H victory in the competition. Five of Barcelona’s last six home league matches have seen both teams score.
Barcelona will hope to put the off-field issues aside and stay in touch with leaders Real Madrid, who start this round of fixtures two points above them. The gap exists because of Barça’s 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano before the international break, which could have been worse if not for goalkeeper Joan García, whose inspired performance included the best La Liga save in August. Hansi Flick’s men will aim to further improve on their impressive recent home league record (W9, D1, L1), with only Real Madrid having won more games on their own turf (ten) in La Liga in 2025.
Valencia earned their first win of the campaign (D1, L1) – a 3-0 victory over Getafe – before the break. It was a deserving result following a spirited performance in a 1-0 away loss against Osasuna on matchday two, when they played with ten men for nearly 70 minutes of regular time. That sort of resilience is no fluke, as Los Ches under Carlos Corberán have been stubborn on the road, avoiding defeat in eight of their 11 league trips since his arrival in January (W2, D6, L3).
In five of Barcelona’s last six games at any venue, a goal has been scored from the 80th minute onwards. Valencia have conceded under 1.5 goals in each of their last seven matches. Ten of Valencia’s last 12 away league games saw both teams score.
Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski warmed up for this fixture with a goal on international duty and has netted seven times in five league H2Hs – six of which have come after half-time. Hugo Duro scored late on in Valencia’s win over Getafe, but his three goals against Barça have all arrived before the hour mark.
Frenkie de Jong picked up an injury during the international break and will miss this match for Barcelona. José Gayà meanwhile is available for Valencia after missing the game against Getafe due to suspension.
