Two of the Bundesliga’s most in-form sides square off when Stuttgart host Borussia Dortmund with proud records at stake for both. Stuttgart are unbeaten in the pair’s last seven H2Hs across all competitions (W5, D2), although they didn’t have it all their way, with five of the seven games in that sequence seeing both teams score.

Stuttgart suffered the disappointment of their UEFA Europa League campaign coming to an end prior to the international break, but are unbeaten in six Bundesliga games (W4, D2) and look well-placed to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL). There is plenty of work still to do before that ambition becomes reality, and with a DFB-Pokal semi-final tie also on the horizon, the Swabians can’t afford to become complacent. That’s particularly the case for Sebastian Hoeneß’s side on home soil, where their only Bundesliga home defeat this season came at the hands of runaway league leaders Bayern Munich (W10, D2).

Second-placed Borussia Dortmund have lost just two Bundesliga games all season (W18, D7), and both have been to Bayern, who they trailed by nine points at the beginning of the round. Since the most recent of those losses at the end of February, Niko Kovač’s side have responded with three straight victories, including a dramatic 3-2 success over Hamburg prior to the international break which saw them score three goals in 11 minutes to turn things around. Here, Borussia Dortmund will strive for a fourth consecutive win as they also aim to extend their run of nine league matches unbeaten on the road (W5, D4).

Eight of Stuttgart’s 13 home league games this term were level at half-time. Prior to this round, Stuttgart had conceded the third-most penalties of any side in the Bundesliga this season (eight). The pre-match favourite has not lost any of Borussia Dortmund’s 27 Bundesliga games this season (W20, D7). Borussia Dortmund have recorded a league-high 12 clean sheets this season.

Seven of Ermedin Demirović has been making a late impact in recent weeks with four of his last five goals coming beyond the 75th minute, and he loves this matchup with goals in four of his last seven matches against Borussia Dortmund. Going up against his former club here, four of Serhou Guirassy’s last five goals for Borussia Dortmund came before the half-time break, whilst he’s on a 12-game winning streak in all tournaments when scoring.

Stuttgart hope to have Jamie Leweling back available after he withdrew from Germany’s national team, while Borussia Dortmund will be without Felix Nmecha because of a knee injury that is threatening his World Cup participation.
