Lazio are currently in sixth place in the Serie A standings and have improved after a considerably slow start to their league campaign. The Biancocelesti edged CFR Cluj to a narrow 1-0 victory in their previous game and will look to take it up a notch this weekend.
In addition to Mattia Zaccagni’s absence due to suspension, Maurizio Sarri will be without another of his first-choice picks on Sunday afternoon, as Alessio Romagnoli sustained a hamstring injury in last week’s defeat to Atalanta.
After making several changes in midweek, Lazio should bring back Danilo Cataldi, Luis Alberto and number one goalkeeper Ivan Provedel, while Patric continues to cover Romagnoli in defence as his upcoming ban only applies to European fixtures.
Lazio have an impressive squad at their disposal and will need to go the extra mile to overcome their recent slump. Ciro Immobile ended his goalscoring drought against CFR Cluj and will look to add to his goal tally this weekend.
Salernitana, on the other hand, are in 16th place in the league table at the moment and have not been at their best this season. The home side slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hellas Verona last week and will need to work hard to bounce back in this fixture. Meanwhile, Salernitana’s star striker Krzysztof Piatek has also struggled for form of late, and the ex-Milan man has now gone goalless for nine league games – his longest streak without scoring in a single Serie A season.
Hoping for a fresh start under new boss Paulo Sousa, he should still lead the line on Sunday, and Federico Bonazzoli will also hope to start with Boulaye Dia absent. Salernitana can pack a punch on their day but have been in poor form in recent months. Lazio are the better team on paper and hold the upper hand going into this match.
