Real Madrid vs Al Hilal Full Match Highlights Replay Club World Cup.
The Xabi Alonso era begins for the record winners (5 titles) of the Club World Cup (CWC), Real Madrid, when they meet Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, a team who’ve enjoyed great success domestically and in continental football, finishing as runners-up to Madrid in the 2022 CWC. Madrid beat Al-Hilal 5-3 to win the 2022 CWC final in their only previous H2H meeting, while they have a perfect record against clubs from Saudi Arabia (W2). Al-Hilal’s only experience of Spanish opposition was that high-scoring final and they also lost their only other CWC game against European opposition, going down 1-0 against Chelsea in the 2021 edition.
Real Madrid showed how seriously they are taking this tournament by swiftly replacing Carlo Ancelotti with Alonso and paying Liverpool extra money to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold during the early June transfer window. Dean Huijsen was also recruited from Bournemouth as Los Blancos strengthened what has been an injury-ravaged back line. Defensive issues undoubtedly cost them in the La Liga title race as they finished second to Barcelona, but having finished their campaign with four wins from five games (L1), and two successive clean sheets, they should arrive with momentum.
Like Real Madrid, Al-Hilal finished as runners-up in their domestic top flight, trailing Al-Ittihad by eight points despite finishing the season unbeaten in their last five league fixtures (W4, D1). In another parallel with their opponents, they installed a new manager in time for this tournament with Simone Inzaghi chosen to succeed Jorge Jesus on a permanent basis. Although he personally doesn’t have any prior managerial experience in this tournament, Al Hilal do, making three appearances under the previous Club World Cup format, more than any other Saudi club.
Each of Real Madrid’s last four Club World Cup games saw both teams score and over 3.5 goals (W4). Real Madrid have scored 2+ goals in their last six competitive games. Inzaghi has twice managed against Madrid and once against Alonso, losing without reply on each occasion. There were goals in both halves of 13 of Al-Hilal’s last 14 fixtures.
Kylian Mbappé has scored ten of Real Madrid’s last 14 competitive goals and he’s broken the deadlock in three of his last four goalscoring club outings. Since the 2019 edition of this competition, no player has more Club World Cup goal involvements than Al-Hilal’s Salem El Dawsari (G4, A2).
Real Madrid are without no fewer than four senior defenders, while Vinícius Júnior is also an injury doubt. Al-Hilal may be missing six first-team players, with João Cancelo the biggest-named absentee.
