Paris Saint-Germain are back at the Parc des Princes for the new Ligue 1 season, with Angers facing opposition from the French capital for the second time in as many games. PSG are on a run of 18 straight H2H victories in all competitions and haven’t lost to Angers at home since May 1972 (W14, D3). Angers’ aforementioned poor recent run on the road includes a 1-0 defeat here in April.

Champions in each of the last four Ligue 1 campaigns, PSG showed their considerable strength in depth by beating Nantes 1-0 on Sunday, with what was virtually a second team. Luis Enrique rested several players who featured in their run to the FIFA Club World Cup final and beat Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup. It was hardly a vintage performance from the Parisians as they struggled to break through a stubborn Nantes side, and Enrique will expect improvement here, particularly if their established big hitters return to add more bite to their attacking line-up.

Angers beat PSG’s city rivals Paris FC 1-0 last weekend thanks to an early Esteban Lepaul strike, and they’ve now won three of their last four league games by a one-goal margin (L1). Beating a promoted side at home – despite finishing the game with ten men – is one thing, but taking on the four-time reigning champions is a far more difficult prospect for the Black and Whites, especially as they’ve only won one of their last six Ligue 1 games on the road (D1, L4).

PSG haven’t lost their first home league game of the season since 2011/12 (W10, D3). Ten of PSG’s last 11 home Ligue 1 fixtures saw both teams score. Only one team has scored in eight of Angers’ last nine opening top-flight away games. The side scoring first has won each of Angers’ last 12 Ligue 1 games.

Gonçalo Ramos has scored after the 85th minute in two of PSG’s last four games, including the crucial equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup. Angers’ Yassin Belkhdim could be keeping the referee busy after collecting bookings in three of his last four league appearances.

PSG will have João Neves available again after suspension. Angers will be without Louis Mouton following his red card in the win against Paris FC, while Himad Abdelli missed that match with a hernia problem.
