Head coach Ruben Amorim may finally feel as if he’s making an impact on Manchester United, who’ve strung together three successive wins for the first time this season. That run includes back-to-back clean sheets, the latest of which came in Bucharest as the Red Devils secured safe passage to the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League by beating FCSB 2-0, though that gives them a tight turnaround before hosting Crystal Palace.

Amorim may well have to shuffle his pack as he looks to win consecutive league games for the first time since arriving in England. Old Trafford has been far from a safe haven for him however, with United losing four of their last five Premier League fixtures on home soil (W1). And recent H2H history suggests that’s unlikely to change as they’ve failed to score in the last three league meetings – they last blanked in four such games against a single opponent back in 1983.

Crystal Palace are fast becoming the Premier League’s away day specialists, with no side having accumulated more points on the road since the start of December than their 13 pre-round. The Eagles have won four of their last five away matches in the competition (D1) – with three of those wins coming ‘to nil’ – and are chasing their first set of three successive victories on their travels since May 2019.

Their relegation fears appear well behind them, and Oliver Glasner’s men can even leapfrog their hosts with a win this weekend. The travelling supporters, once overawed by a trip to this famous ground, must now be confident having won three of their last five visits to United (L2) – more than they managed in their first 22 away H2Hs between 1922 and 2018.

Players to watch: Kobbie Mainoo thrived in a more advanced role against FCSB on Thursday, becoming the first player to score and assist on his first major European start for United since Wayne Rooney in 2004. New Palace signing Romain Esse netted within two minutes of coming off the bench on his Premier League debut against Brentford last week – only three teenagers have ever scored in their first two appearances in the competition, all of which either did so while playing for United or went on to represent them (Alan Smith, Federico Macheda and Anthony Martial).
