Manchester City’s quest for more silverware continues as they take on Championship side Southampton, who’ve already taken two Premier League scalps to reach the FA Cup semi-finals. Manchester City have lost just one of the last ten H2Hs (W6, D3), although that was their most recent cup meeting, in the 2022/23 Carabao Cup. Manchester City have also won both FA Cup H2Hs this century. Eight of Manchester City’s last 12 goals have come after half-time.

Manchester City approach an FA Cup semi-final for the eighth consecutive season riding a huge wave of momentum having beaten Burnley 1-0 on Wednesday to sit on top of the Premier League for the first time since August. Chasing a domestic treble having already pocketed the Carabao Cup, the Cityzens have been utterly ruthless in this competition this term, scoring 19 goals and conceding just twice in four games, including beating Newcastle and Liverpool by 2+ goals in the last two rounds. The seven-time FA Cup winners now head to the familiar surroundings of Wembley on the back of a five-match winning run in all competitions that includes four clean sheets.

Southampton, who won this competition for the only time in 1975/76, have marked the 50-year anniversary in some style by earning their first trip to Wembley in the FA Cup since the 2020/21 semi-finals. They beat then Premier League leaders Arsenal 2-1 in the quarter-finals having already edged past top-flight opposition in Fulham 1-0 in the previous round, and boast a much longer unbeaten sequence than their illustrious opponents having not lost since late January (W16, D4). The Saints are chasing a return to the Premier League, although an eight-match winning run in all competitions was ended by Bristol City on Tuesday (D 2-2).

There was at least one goal in each half of all four of Manchester City’s FA Cup fixtures this term. Southampton have scored at least twice in each of their last seven competitive fixtures. Southampton are yet to concede a goal before half-time in the FA Cup this season.

Antoine Semenyo scored for Manchester City against Liverpool in the quarter-finals (W 4-0) and all three of his goals in cup competitions since signing for the club arrived between half-time and the 55th minute. Cameron Archer completed the scoring in two of Southampton’s last three games and three of his last four goals came after the 70th minute.

Rúben Dias and Rodri are doubtful for Manchester City, while Southampton look to have no fresh concerns.
