Manchester City vs Al Ain Full Match Highlights Replay Club World Cup.
Reigning FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) champions Manchester City will look to build on a routine 2-0 victory over Wydad on matchday one, and can book their place in the quarter-finals here with a win over Al Ain, who were thrashed 5-0 by Juventus in their curtain raiser. This match will serve as the first-ever meeting between a side from England and the United Arab Emirates, which will fittingly feature Manchester City, who are owned by a member of the Emirati ruling family, Sheikh Mansour.
A third successive victory by a two-goal margin across all competitions served as a solid start to their title defence for Manchester City, who handed debuts to new signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki in the win against Wydad. The Cityzens have now won all three of their matches at the Club World Cup by an aggregate score of 9-0, and another success here would see them join Bayern Munich as the only sides to win each of their first four matches in the competition.
Al Ain appear unqualified to stand in their way after they were unceremoniously demolished by Juventus on matchday one, with the 5-0 reverse standing as the joint-second largest losing margin in Club World Cup history. A repeat of their run to the final on their only previous competition appearance in 2018 – when they were beaten by Real Madrid – therefore looks extremely unlikely, though six clean sheets in a seven-match unbeaten run prior (W4, D3) suggests they could make life tougher than expected for a new-look Manchester City outfit.
Manchester City have received a red card in two of their last three matches, as many as in their previous 161 matches combined across all competitions. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola boasts a 100% winning record at the Club World Cup (W9), with the last seven of those wins accompanied by a clean sheet. Al Ain haven’t lost back-to-back matches by multiple-goal margins since November. Seven of the last nine goals Al Ain conceded came before half-time.
Phil Foden may have become the first Englishman to score in multiple Club World Cup editions, but Guardiola’s declaration that “ten new players” will take to the field here paves the way for Erling Haaland to come into the team having scored in his last three starts for club and country. Soufiane Rahimi is a prime threat for Al Ain – three of his last four strikes for the club were their first of the match.
Mateo Kovačić is Manchester City’s main absentee, while Rico Lewis will be suspended after his red card on matchday one. Al Ain have no notable absentees.
