FC Salzburg are looking to make it two wins from two in Group H when they take on Saudi side Al-Hilal in Washington on matchday two of the 2025 FIFA World Cup (CWC). These teams have never previously met in competitive action.

A 2-1 opening-game triumph over Pachuca means that Club World Cup debutants Salzburg face Al-Hilal targeting a fourth successive victory in all competitions. Those three wins have seen eight goals scored by the Austrians, who have now found the net 12 times in their last five matches (W4, L1). In total, it is ten victories from their last 15 games (D2, L3), and another win here would see Thomas Letsch’s men book a place in the knockout stages ahead of their final group match against Real Madrid.

Al-Hilal made history on Wednesday when they became the first Asian team to avoid defeat against a European opponent in the Club World Cup by drawing 1-1 with Real Madrid. In what was Simone Inzaghi’s first game in charge, they had to come from behind and needed goalkeeper Yassine Bounou to save a penalty in stoppage time but overall were good value for their point which extended their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions (W4, D2).

Salzburg have kept only one clean sheet in their last ten games. Salzburg have scored in each of their last 16 fixtures. Al-Hilal have avoided defeat in three of their last four Club World Cup games (W2, D1). Al-Hilal have lost just one of their last 11 matches in all competitions (W6, D4).

Oscar Gloukh opened the scoring for Salzburg against Pachuca and you’d have to go back to December to find the last time he had a goal involvement for Salzburg which didn’t contribute to their first goal of the match. Rúben Neves netted from the penalty spot against Real Madrid but also picked up a yellow card for the fourth time in his last six games for club and country.

There are no new injuries for Salzburg, who are without Karim Konaté for the tournament. Aleksandar Mitrović seems set to miss out again for Al-Hilal with a calf injury.
