A 1-0 win over Udinese last weekend, followed by a ten-point deduction for Juventus saw Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio secure their qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. The Biancocelesti are still leading the race to be ‘best of the rest’ behind Napoli which would be their best Serie A (SA) finish since being crowned champions in the 1999/2000 season.
There’s another record up for grabs, as a win would make it just their second top-flight season double over the already-relegated Cremonese having won the reverse fixture 4-0. Four wins across the last six league games at the Stadio Olimpico (D1, L1) should give them confidence of getting the job done, although it may prove to be a tight affair as three of those victories have been by a slender one-goal margin.

The defeat left coach Davide Ballardini lamenting that his side “deserve to be relegated” as the Coppa Italia semi-final run remains a rare positive memory of this campaign. Yet, La Cremo have won 11 points from their last eight league games (W3, D2, L3) which suggests the visitors may remain a tough nut to crack despite their demotion.
Even on the road, Cremonese have earned points in five of their last nine league away matches (W1, D4, L4) including a creditable 1-1 draw against AC Milan. Earning points here will require them to halt a five-game away losing run against Lazio though, with their only top-flight H2H point at this venue earned back in September 1989.
Players to watch: Lazio’s Sergej Milinković-Savić could look for an early impact having scored and assisted in the first-half of the reverse fixture. Contrastingly, five of Daniel Ciofani’s last seven Cremonese goals have come beyond the hour mark.
Hot stat: Lazio are the only SA side yet to concede a match opener within the first 15 minutes in this campaign.
